What to do?

There are so many beautiful places to visit in the Isle of Man that you might not know where to start! Our recommendations are as follows:

A Short Walk from Voyage Hostel:

  1. The Manx Museum (free entrance);
  2. A walk to Nobles Park and the TT Grandstand; and
  3. A walk through the Promenade and the Villa Marina Garden, when if you climb a few stairs, you will have an amazing view of Douglas and an opportunity to take a Horse Tram in the summer season.

A Longer Walk (perhaps aided by a short bus or tram journey!):

  1. Onchan Pleasure Park, including mini golf, a boating lake and regular Stock Car Racing shows;
  2. A walk through Onchan’s Glen Garden where is decorated with a fairy theme;
  3. The Manx Electric Railway terminus where you can connect by electric tram to Laxey, Snaefell and the North of the island; and
  4. A walk to Douglas Head, and further on to Marine Drive to see the old tourist tram route through to Port Soderick (no trams though!).

By Bus:

  1. There are many buses along the beautiful coast road to Royal Ramsey in the North of the island, but if you take the 3X in the evening (with a stop next to the walkable Rosemount Pub) you can view the Mountain Road on the way there, seeing all the famous turns and precipises of the TT course.
  2. We love the walk around Peel Castle on the Manx stones, and enjoy the little beach full of shells. Depending on the weather, you may get to see basking sharks and dolphins on your travels.
  3. The deep south of the island is also beautiful, with Port Erin and Port St Mary providing pleasant seaside time, The Sound and Creagneash Village open to visitors, and for those who plan ahead, perhaps a trip to the Calf of Man.

For Keen Cyclists:

  1. For the amateur Mark Cavendish amongst us, there are beautiful quiet roads going west or south of Douglas, with some decent, if not sharp inclines to keep you honest.
  2. You may fancy the challenge of a trip over the mountain road to the North, where you could travel through Tholt-y-Will, Sulby Glen and through to the Motor Museum in Jurby or any of the interesting beaches around the northern tip of the island.
